Mr. DOG is off the chain, and he's ready to bite whoever gets in his way. This is A1 talent on the rise and he even has stage skills to match - a true performer. His lyrics are compelling and his word play is doscious. BowWowRecords is puttin out some stiff competition this year with Mac Money and Big Squeeze. You could never get tired of his style (Mr. D.O.G.) because his lyrics change tone and pitch so swift that it holds your attention without even recognizing it. and the content is real talk. You can feel realness when it's spoken correctly, and this ain't no perpetratin' MC. His style has a Bay Area feel, but he's comin' straight out the Puget Sound wit' the wettest flow around. This might be why they call him tha Aquaman! The West Coast has a distinct vibe for the correct marriage between MC and producer and mr. Dog is bringin' all that and more. We recently caught up with this young CEO to check his format and here's what he had to say...

Let me know a bit about you and your production. Where are you from (city)? Grew up? label? Crew? Producers? Etc.

I was born in Houston, Texas where I spent the first decade and some change of my life. I moved to Tacoma in 1986 with my mom and started freestyling and breakdancing around that time. Around 95 I got serious with my music, started working with an ol' high school friend now label mate, Big Squeeze and got my business license. By '98 I had dropped an Ep and my debut album. And in 2000 I signed Mac Money. We've been moving full steam ahead and aint stopped, so this is where we at.

What number album is this for you?

Once Big Squeeze's album drops in January, it will be the 5th album released from Bow Wow Records. As far as my solo albums, Diabolical Deeds will be my 3rd and is slated to drop in the summer of 2003. I'm anxious to put it out there, because it's gonna definitely change the Northwest rap scene again."

What's behind the name Mr. D.O.G.?

Mister is used on my name as a sign of respect. I've earned mine. And D.O.G. is just Dog. There are so many dogs in the industry, I wanted to be a different breed. The stand out."

What are 5 words you would use to describe your style?

Urban- My songs were made for and depict the city life

Refreshing- Using my own dialect and changing paces gives my style many different faces. Making it hard to get tired of.

Raw- It's no tongue biting on mine. I give it to ya with no chaser

Intriguing- People learn things when listening to my music. This makes them want to know what I will rap about next and wonder what they can learn from it.

Reality- I deal with real subjects, topics, and possibilities.

How long did it take to record this album?

2 years. The reason it took so long is because I wanted to get some of the other talent on the label out there to the public and focused on that for a year or so. Now it's my turn again and I'm on it like a hunting down on the scent. Ya smell that?

If you could do one thing different on your next album, what would it be?

I would like to collab with Scarface, purchase one of those unreleased and rarely heard Tupac verses and do a song with them over a Bosko track with Nate Dogg singing the hook. I think that would be hot!"

What's the best advice you could give to somebody just getting started?

Give it your all or get out before you get too deep in it. Too many people think that CDs just sell themselves and that this is the easiest profession in the world. That's not true. Good marketing sells CDs. Talent is what keeps you around for the duration but the marketing is what sets the trend.

Why do you consider yourself an entreprenuer?

Because I came in this game from the ground up and started something that will be remembered. I brought attention to a small city many folks weren't even aware existed. I have people who I looked up to in my region, looking at what I'm gonna do next to see what they should do. Basically, my moves set the trends and illustrates the way to have a successful sole proprietorship. This alone makes me an entreprenuer. I don't think I'm hot shit. I just excepted the responsibility that comes with making the power moves that I have in the last few years.
